School Catering Company: Aspens

We use a catering company called Aspens who provide our school lunches.

See below for a parent pack about Aspens and the menu for this term. I think you'll agree that there are some very tasty choices!

School Lunches are £2.70 and are to be booked and paid online via Eduspot (Teachers2Parents) by midnight on a Sunday each week for the whole week ahead.

We send out allergy and intolerance forms to pupils registered on our system. Please ensure that these are completed and returned promptly. If we are not aware of your child's allergy/intolerance, please let us know immediately.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2

All Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) pupils are entitled to receive a free school meal. This is part of the Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) initiative and regardless of what benefits are being claimed.

However, some children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 may also have an entitlement to benefits-related Free School Meals. Children in this group are also eligible for Pupil Premium – additional funding paid to the school to support your child in their learning. It is important to apply for benefits-related Free School Meals if you think your child may be eligible. This is so that your child’s school can receive this funding.

Children in Year 3 and above

Your child may be eligible for benefits-related free school meals if you, or the child themselves, meet the eligibility criteria.

If eligible for Free School Meals, your child will also be eligible for pupil premium. This is additional funding paid to the school to support your child in their learning.

Free school meals eligibility criteria if you receive benefits

A child is eligible for free school meals if their parent/carer (or the child themselves) receives any of the following benefits:

Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods).
Income Support (IS)
Job Seekers' Allowance (Income-Based) and equal based Job Seekers Allowance
Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA-IR) and equal based Employment and Support Allowance
Child Tax Credit (CTC) with an annual income of less than £16,190
Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Guarantee Element of Pension Credit (GPC)
Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (IAA) Supports

If you are claiming the benefits listed below you are not eligible for free school meals. This is regardless of what other benefits/credits are being claimed.

Free School Meals Update for 2026/2027

We would like to share an important update from Cornwall Council regarding Free School Meals (FSM), which will change from August 2026.

What is changing?
Cornwall Council is introducing a new “Auto Award” system to help ensure that all children who are entitled to free school meals receive them—without families needing to apply.

Using information they already hold, the Council will:
Identify pupils who may be eligible
Contact families directly
Automatically register eligible children unless families choose to opt out

If families do not respond within two weeks of being contacted, the check will go ahead and, if eligible, their child will be enrolled.

Key national changes (from September 2026)

All families receiving Universal Credit will qualify (no income limit)
FSM will no longer be automatically protected year to year
Eligibility will be checked at the start of each academic year

Why this matters
Free school meals:
Ensure children receive a healthy meal every day
Help schools access additional Pupil Premium funding, which directly supports learning, wellbeing, and opportunities for pupils

Nationally, some eligible children are currently missing out—this new system aims to make sure no child slips through the net.

How to opt out if they wish

If no opt-out is received, the Council will check eligibility and register children automatically.
